Working as a Senior Partner Engineer at Unity, Olly Nicholson covers wide ground: Solutions discovery with developers, roadmap presentations talks and training internally, at events across EMEA & further afield such as GDC and Unite and troubleshooting issues for artists and developers using Unity. Specialist areas of expertise include XR, lighting, animation, effects, optimisation, art & render pipelines and the Unity products eco system.
Previously Olly worked on many published games titles over 12 years, most recently as Technical Artist on Split-Second at Disney’s Black Rock Studios with experience in troubleshooting, tools development and training as well as modelling, rigging, animation and infrastructure for animated Powerplays and environments. Prior to that he was charged with building and maintaining race track environments for Moto GP ’06 and ’07.
With an Interactive Arts degree and a number of years experience in photography, architectural visualisation and rendering in addition to his games development artwork, he has a broad spectrum of experience in the graphics arena.
Specialities: Broad range of software and development platform experience over his career, Olly has skills in 3D modelling, texturing, rigging, animation in addition to technical art responsibilities of asset management, working conventions, training, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation. He has extensive software experience with 3DS Max, Maya, Blender, Photoshop, xNormal, Substance & many other industry standard documentation, presentation & production tools.
