Barrie Ellis – Technical Specialist (SpecialEffect)
Barrie has been working in the field of accessible gaming since 1994 whilst working at an Essex Day Centre. Here he discovered a BBC Micro with touch-screen, switches and custom joysticks and the joy such technology could bring. Whilst there, he built perhaps the first accessible gaming interface for a Sony Playstation to enable people to control a dinosaur, create music and drive cars. He started the web-site OneSwitch.org.uk in 2002 to promote one-switch activities and accessible gaming solutions in general. In 2008 he curated Special Effect’s first “roadshow” gaming equipment with training for the volunteers. Soon after he took a part-time post there as Technical Specialist. Favourite games: Shenmue, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, Asteroids and Lunar Lander.
